If you have been to my TPT Store you will see I am all about Adapted and Interactive Books. These books are so versatile! They can be used for 1:1, small, and large group, task bins, assessment, independent, partner, and morning work.
For those of you that don’t know, Adapted & Interactive books are books generally based on published classics or thematic units i.e. “Farm, Ocean, Back to School, etc. The text is usually adapted to be less wordy and easier for early readers. It also has symbolated text. That means the words are accompanied with picture symbols that AAC users use. In addition, each page includes interactive pieces. Students have to match the corresponding symbols. This is a great way to reinforce or introduce vocabulary.
Adapted and interactive books can be used for pre and post assessment, reinforcement of AAC, requesting, on task behavior, turn taking, promoting independence, and working on fine motor, cognitive, social, and pre-academic skills.
I always have multiple copies of Adapted & Interactive books in our classroom. You can find them on our bookshelf, easel, and unit cognition bin. To get your hands on your own copy head over to my TPT Store. Items are for sale individually or in the Adaptive and Interactive Book Bundle.
